A revitalised Marrickville Metro
Marrickville Metro is currently working with the NSW Department of Planning on the revitalisation of the centre – which will see a greater range of shops, new community facilities, open spaces, and a practical approach to managing parking, traffic and other matters.
Before finalising any plans, Marrickville Metro will consult with its many stakeholders including local residents, the business community and Marrickville Council. AMP Capital has been managing Marrickville Metro for 5 years and we are aware of the centre’s importance to the local community. We want to ensure we listen to and incorporate your views as we develop our plans – including what the centre should look like, what you would like to see in terms of shops and community facilities, and other ways we can improve your Marrickville Metro.
Talking to the community
We have already talked to the community to find out what people want from Marrickville Metro, and we will continue to seek your input as we develop our plans. Our research has sought to find how Marrickville Metro can best serve the future needs of local residents and the broader community.
We have set out our key research findings below. Broadly speaking, our research found Marrickville Metro could be improved by providing a greater variety of shops, particularly in fashion, gifts and homewares, as well as a second supermarket. We also heard that the local community would like to see more green spaces and facilities within Marrickville Metro.
Key research findings from a poll of residents in the Marrickville Local Government Area:
• One in two people found the idea of an expanded Metro “very appealing”
• 81% of Marrickville LGA residents thought that an upgraded Metro would serve the community better58% liked both strip shopping locations and shopping centres.
